Cambridge Assessment
Cambridge English Exams offer CAIS students one of the world’s leading English proficiency certificates that are highly valuable for future employment and education.
“Over 3.5 million people in 130 countries sit them every year. Cambridge English qualifications are recognised and supported by universities, employers, government agencies, immigration authorities and professional bodies in 130 countries.” (https://www.cambridgeassessment.org.uk/)
Cambridge English tests are based on the Council of Europe Framework (CEFR) (the alphanumeric codes - A1, A2, B1, B2 - listed below refer to the CEFR structure) and has strong connection to MYP Language Acquisition structure and criteria.
Cambridge English exam results are used at CAIS as a benchmark of students’ English language progression and to provide external validation for internal grades.
Secondary teachers use Cambridge data, in conjunction with MAP test data and internal summative assessment scores, to determine the placement and promotion of students in English Language Acquisition classes.
CAIS is an authorized testing center for the full range of Young Learners English (YLE) tests (Pre-A1 Starters, A1 Movers, A2 Flyers), B1 Preliminary for Schools (PET for school), and B2 First Certificate in English for Schools (FCE for school).
At CAIS, the speaking components are completed during school hours, whereas the reading and writing tests are conducted on a Saturday. YLE test is conducted on weekdays.
Primary students are expected to complete the YLE tests.
MYP1-4 students sit for PET
MYP4 students sit for the FCE (when they have passed PET).
MYP5 students must pass the FCE (or an equivalent English test) for entry in the Diploma Programme.
