ECAs at CAIS provide diverse opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Middle and high school students can select clubs, teams and activities from a wide range including sports, music, drama, HMUN, arts and game design.

Timing and Sign-Up
Activities and clubs will occur on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:15 to 4:25pm.
Students sign up online in the first week of each season explaining reasons for their choice. Sports teams will involve trials in the initial weeks of school to ensure a high standard of ability and performance. Throughout the year there may be competitions/activities on weekends.
A year-round program with three seasons
The ECA program has three rotations – autumn, winter and spring/summer.
Most outdoor sports occur during autumn and spring/summer (except winter sports) due to the climate. The vast majority of clubs are organised by the well-experienced staff at CAIS, so are free to join. Travel fees may incur for competitions outside of the Changchun area.
Dedication and Balance
If a student is triumphant in becoming a member of a sports team, then he or she will become an active participant in training and scheduled matches, which requires dedication. The IB is a demanding curriculum, so students enrolled in teams will have to ensure that a commitment to both their team and their studies is required. Our policy details that students can take part in a variety of clubs as long as their academic performance adheres to a certain standard.
At CAIS we realise that while academics are an important part of student development, being part of a club improves soft skills in team work, time management and communication, and builds self-esteem and a sense of community. We believe that a balanced student has the opportunity to develop interests outside the classroom in a variety of aspects including sports, the arts and service.
